Retire in comfort in Ecuador

Nelly-Profile

Let me help you find your dream home and get settled.

Why should you trust me?

First-off, there are fewer than 2000 licensed Realtors in Ecuador. Realtor education and certification is new in Ecuador. Until recently, it was a free-for-all with 95% of realtors having little to no education in real-estate law, valuations, inspections and other topics.

Due to botched transactions (ignorance, not malice), countless naive buyers found themselves high and dry, with no legal claim to the property they had just purchased. This crisis of trust, led to major regulatory reform in 2017. Now, the Ecuador real-estate industry is properly regulated. And the government is clamping down to stop unlicensed agents carrying out real-estate transactions.

Born in Peru, I lived in San Francisco for a decade, and married an Englishman also living in the US. Both well-travelled we considered many options in Latin America and finally settled on Ecuador, for a variety of reasons, not least the low prices for beachfront real-estate. My husband, Mark, has lived on four continents, and has business clients around the world. All this gives us a uniquely international perspective.

Retirement in the US is scary expensive. We get it. It’s not easy to turn your back on what you know. But when you run the numbers, and all you can see is a future of poverty, it is time to think outside of the box. We abandoned the US in 2012 for many of the same reasons you are considering now.

In 2004 my husband and I had invested our savings in a business venture. Then came the financial meltdown of 2009. We lost it all. So, with the responsibility a young family, no savings and the specter of retirement approaching. We decided to reinvent ourselves in Ecuador. Mark now has a thriving consulting business and I returned to the field of Real Estate.

My focus as a buyer’s agent is to help you find the right property for your lifestyle and budget, in a neighborhood that has the best potential for appreciation.

One of my greatest strength is as a researcher. Reliable real estate information in Ecuador is hard to come by, and it is scattered. You can count on my team to know everything there is to know about zoning and regulations, which areas are going up, and which are not, in each of the major cities.

My firm Ecuareal has built a nationwide network of experienced English-first bilingual real-estate agents. They are a mix of Expats and locals who have at some time lived overseas in the US, Canada or Europe. See the team.

Having a young family, we have travelled extensively through Ecuador seeking adventure. My husband is a beach lover. As a hobby he has documented about 50% of Ecuador’s 100+ beaches which you can see here on ecuadorbeaches.org.

Whether you’re looking for an apartment by the beach or the land to create an Eco-lodge in the Jungle, we know the areas and we’ve done the homework to advise you.

Nelly’s knowledge of the different neighborhoods around Quito was very impressive. Buying a house from overseas is a little scary, but Nelly and her team were always on the case, and made it easy for us.
